Nachman’s Story The Moradof family moved to the settlement Achiya from Yad Binyamin in support of their son Nachman. Nachman, a young 15-year-old boy, was passionate about herding sheep and settling the Land of Israel. By virtue of his talents and sensitivity, he quickly found himself on farms in need of his special connection with animals and the land. Nachman spent countless hours herding sheep, riding horses and caring for many types of farm animals. Although his work with the animals was first-rate and professional, he took it upon himself to never earn wages from the various tasks on the farm, chiefly herding sheep and working the land of the farms. Nachman was so awestruck by the beauty of the Land of Israel that he photographed it from many perspectives and made sure to document and immortalize in his photographs and videos the divine of nature, as he herded sheep and trekked through open spaces. Nachman's special character was expressed in the fact that he easily connected with everyone around him, young and old. Despite his young age, his radiant face and captivating smile brought people to connect with him, and to encourage them to find their strengths and truth. This special light of Nachman, a young boy, continues to be reflected in the hearts of the many people that he touched even after his murder. On Tuesday, Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5783 - June 20, 2023, Nachman helped a farmer in the area by bringing in a particularly challenging animal. In return for his significant work, the farmer offered to take Nachman out to eat at the local Hummus diner, in the town of Eli, (instead of returning home to his parents for lunch). Nachman accepted. After relaxing and eating a Rosh Chodesh meal, they sat outside, and an abhorrent terrorist arrived and Nachman was shot to death. The Artworks: The story of Ora and Libi A few months after the terrible event, Ora, Nachman’s mother, came to the studio of local artist, Libi Yaar-Horowitz, and asked Libi to help her learn to paint one of the many photographs that Nachman had taken as a way to connect with him and commemorate his love of the scenery and the land. But the task proved to be emotionally overwhelming and unbearable. Libi felt a connection with the poignant photographs and asked Ora if she could paint them herself. But the number of photographs was so numerous that Libi decided to issue a call for artists, family members, youths and others who wanted to be involved in the moving project – creating artworks inspired by photographs. The artists were acquainted with Nachman’s story and photographs and thus about 57 participants produced 69 works of art, “After Nachman”.
