Spotlight from the Adama Exhibition: Nir Brand

Nir Brand is an artist and designer whose visual language moves between geography and memory, between the materiality of place and the emotional resonance the landscape leaves within him. He currently lives and creates in Shiloh, with his present source of inspiration rooted in the mountains of Binyamin and the shifting realities of the region. Nir grew up in the Eshkol area near Gaza, and his participation in the project creates a connecting thread between his roots in the southern landscapes and his life today in the heart of the hills. Two artists from the Eshkol region participating in the “Adama” project—Zohar Morag and Yochi Dayan—were his teachers at the Besor School in the south, adding another personal and meaningful layer to his involvement. Nir is a graduate of the Visual Communication Department at Bezalel, and works in his studio in Shiloh. His work responds intimately to the landscape that surrounds him, to the rhythm of family life, and to the political-human complexity of the region. In his paintings, he examines the tension between the land’s natural and historical beauty and the layered complexity that lies beneath it. His artistic process is grounded in direct experience of material, space, and format—always searching for an authentic and personal voice. The exhibition presents four landscape paintings: “Way to Achia Hill” (2021) and “Eucalyptus” (2024), which lean toward the figurative, alongside “Shiloh, North View” (2012) and “Shiloh, West View” (2021), which are more expressive and abstract. Together they offer a broad spectrum of the visual language that characterizes his work. Nir’s lyrical brushstrokes, vibrancy, and sensitivity to color and composition bring the hills of Binyamin and Samaria to life with depth, texture, and emotion. His paintings invite the viewer to surrender to the meeting of material and light, of earth and sky—a meeting revealed in the landscape, yet also felt beneath its surface.
